Handyman Door Jamb & Closet Plaster Repair in New York, NY

This apartment in New York, NY needed two repairs done in the same visit: dry rot on the entryway door jamb and cracked plaster in an under-stair closet. Both problems are common in older Manhattan buildings. The jamb had roughly 10 inches of softened wood on the left leg, though the door was still latching normally and the frame hadn't shifted. The closet plaster was flaking in patches, with crazing and a few deeper cracks, but the substrate underneath was sound, with no soft spots or exposed lath. On the jamb, we cut back to solid wood, fit in a new wood section, and refinished it to match the surrounding profile. In the closet, we sanded back the loose material, skim-coated with joint compound to fill the cracks and level the surface, and painted it out. Both repairs were completed in the same visit, with access coordinated through the building super and landlord. The door jamb is now repaired and painted, and the closet walls and ceiling carry a fresh coat of paint. In New York, NY, both spaces are back in working order after a single visit.

Great guy and a hard worker. Pleased with the quality and quantity of work. He was very responsive in finding the dimensions of the material for one task and the condition of the substrate in another. I would recommend and use again. Out of respect for all these contractors and for their time, be sure to give them the full details, let them see site first, and make sure you're all on the same page.
