TV Accent Wall with Wood Slats in Rye, NY

Watch the project

We built a custom TV accent wall for a homeowner in Rye, NY, who wanted the wall to look like a reference photo of a wood slat feature wall. Before we started, the wall was plain light gray painted drywall with the television mounted directly on it. We began by installing pre-made wood slat panels across the wall, running them floor to near-ceiling and fitting the panels around the television mount so the surface stayed continuous. Next we installed a floating light wood media shelf directly into the slat paneling at media-console height, cantilevered so it holds components without legs or brackets breaking the visual plane. To the left of the slat wall we built a full-height, two-door cabinet in light wood, integrated flush with the surrounding drywall, so the slat panels cover the main wall and the cabinet stands as its own section at that side. The cabinet's two doors sit on that left side of the wall, finished in the same light wood as the shelf and slats. Cord management was built into the installation so the finished wall reads clean from across the room. The living room in Rye, NY, now has a full-height wood slat accent wall running floor to near-ceiling, with the floating shelf spanning beneath the television and the built-in cabinet holding storage to the left. The wall, shelf, and cabinet read as one built surface rather than a wall with furniture set in front of it.
