In White Plains, NY, a living room's wall air conditioning unit sat in a metal sleeve that had gone rusted and dirty, with a deteriorating foam seal and gaps where the top rail and side channel of the opening had lost their integrity, leaving the unit poorly supported. We removed the damaged material around the opening and rebuilt the surround tight at the corners and flush at the face, sizing it to hold the unit snug without gaps. We cleaned the sleeve and set a new wall air conditioning unit into it, then drywalled and painted the wall matte white to bring it back to a smooth, uniform surface consistent with the rest of the room, and fitted a clean white trim frame around the unit. The living room in White Plains now has a smooth, painted wall with the air conditioning unit recessed and supported, trimmed cleanly into place, and no sign of the rust or gaps that had marked the sleeve before.
