What the Work Involves
Drywall repair covers holes, cracks, water-damaged sections, and ceiling damage, plus new installation — hanging board, taping the seams, and building up joint compound to a smooth finish. Drywall pros call this Level 4: three coats of compound over the tape, sanded flat, ready for primer and paint. Getting the wall to Level 4 finishes the repair; the wall isn't painted until that's quoted and done separately.
Plaster and drywall get handled differently. On plaster, we cut back to sound material, back the opening so it has something to hold onto, and rebuild it in coats. On drywall, we cut back to the nearest studs, set in new board, and tape and mud it the same way plaster gets finished. Either method ends at the same paint-ready point.
If the damage came from a leak, we wait until the leak itself is fixed before we repair the wall. Patching over an active leak just means doing the work twice.

Drywall repair is priced per patch: the first wall patch is $375, and each additional patch is $125. Ceiling patches run at twice the wall price, per patch. New drywall installation — hanging, taping, and mudding to Level 4 — is priced at $2.50 per square foot of wall surface, with ceilings at twice the wall rate. A full standard room, about 16 sheets of board, is $1,600.
The estimate is free and comes with no obligation. We look at the damage, walk through the line items, and leave a written proposal. If we open the wall and find more damage than expected — a soft spot that runs wider than it looked, for example — we show you what we found and get your written approval before doing anything beyond the original quote.
What's Included and What's Quoted Separately
We supply all materials — board, tape, joint compound, primer, hardware — and each appears as its own line on the quote. You approve the paint color and sheen before anything goes on the wall. We protect floors and furniture with drop cloths, cover the work area to keep dust contained, and clean up at the end of each visit.
Skim coating, demolition, and garage or basement type-X board are quoted as their own lines, since the scope varies job to job. Repainting the wall is also always its own line, separate from the drywall repair itself.
Painting After the Patch
Repainting is quoted separately because it's a different trade with its own material and labor line, not because that split guarantees a seamless blend on its own. Paint fades and shifts tone over time, and matching an existing wall color exactly isn't always possible, especially on older paint.
Sometimes the more reliable fix is painting the whole wall rather than just the patched section. If the surrounding paint looks like it won't match, we'll point that out during the estimate so you can decide before we start.
Timing and Living Through the Work
A patch typically runs two to three visits, spaced out so each coat of compound has time to dry before the next one goes on or before sanding. A patch sanded before it's dry usually has to be redone, so we don't rush that step.
New Rochelle's noise code sets a noise limit for construction in residential districts between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on weekdays and between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday; outside those windows, construction noise that carries past the property line is treated as unreasonable. We schedule our visits inside those hours.
